I have been saving the dead heads and keeping them in a dry area. What is the best way to obtain their seeds. I am certain that they multiply by seed as I have some growing in areas that I have never planted them.

  1. n

  2. just crumble some of the deadheads onto potting soil cover with 1/4 inch sandy soil.

there are a lot of seads in each flowerhead,

they will come back true to flower type (goblin will grow into goblin, fanfare --grows fanfare, etc)

you can start them anytime  during the growing season.

the flowerheads are ready to be harvested when they turn brown on the plant.

we consistently toss seedheads into a field and there are gaillardia come up on their own.

  3. As long as they are completely dried up and dead, as soon as the head can be crumbled.
