I'm currently a member of the Canadian Forces (Reserves) and after my contract is up I've been looking at living in Britain, enlisting in their army, is it easier for a Canadian to gain British citizenship? I've researched and each source has different information, some say 3 years, other say you have to get married (like in the US) so I turn to you members of Yahoo Answers.

  1. Funny but I was thinking about moving to Canada. Why on earth would you want to live here. You may enlist because of the commonwealth connection. Go onto the army website and have a live chat with an officer who will tell you what you need to do.Lots of people have done it.

  2. You need to be living in UK as legal resident for five years to qualify as a permanent resident, three years as PR you can apply for naturlisation & then u can have citizenship.

Alternatively u can marry a British citizen, live in UK for two years to get PR status & then 18 months (if marriage survives) or 36 months (if marriage ends in divorce) gap is required to apply for Naturalisation.

Your present citizenship doesn't matter as far as citizenship of UK is concerned.
