Question:

Gaining weight after having a m/c?

I had a m/c in April, and since then I cannot seem to stop gaining weight. My husband and I have thrown out all the junk food in the house, we've both taken care to eat healthfully and have started going back to the gym. But no matter what, I still gain weight! Its getting crazy at this point. I'm 4 sizes bigger than I've ever been in my life (I'm 27). I wasn't this big when my diet was a lot less healthy! Could this possibly have something to do with having had a miscarriage?? We want to try again soon, but I'm worried about getting pregnant while I'm so overweight.

Thank you!

  1. You may need to have your thyroid checked to make sure it is working properly (simple blood test). This is a common reason for weight gain and sadly miscarriage. talk to your doc for advise adn to run some checks because both the miscarriage and weight gain may be associated and its better to rule it out before falling pregnant again.

  2. IM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT UR M/C.I KNOW HOW IT FEELS I HAD MINES ON 06/26/2008.I GAINED WEIGHT TOO  ABOUT 5 POUNDS IN 1 WK AFTER IT HAPPENED. YOU SHOULD GET SOME BLOOD WORK DONE THATS WHAT MY DOC DID. IM STILL GAINING CAUSE IM PROLLY NOT EATING HEALTHY BUT THATS MY OTHER PROBLEM I HAVE P/U A EATING HABIT AFTER THE M/C WHICH I CANT STOP IM ALWAYS HUNGRY. IT WILL WORK OUT AND YOU WILL FEEL MUCH BETTER WHEN U SEE UR DOC. GOODLUCK

  3. First of all, my sympathies on your miscarriage.  Then, I'm not a doctor, but a few thoughts:  Just like any pregnancy, a miscarriage throws your hormones out of kilter.  Yours may not be responding normally yet, and may be affecting your metabolism.  You definitely should check it with a doctor, though, just in case it is something less temporary.

I don't know what size you were to begin with, but a difference of 4 sizes is often just 20 pounds.  That won't harm you, unless you were already pretty overweight to begin with.

In any case, check with your OB/GYN.  If you are really eating healthy and exercising, it doesn't make sense that you are continuing to gain weight.
