Gajdosova/Rodionova crush Pang/Yang to reach the quarterfinal – WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
Top seeded Australians, Jarmila Gajdosova and Anastasia Rodionova, destroyed Chinese wild card entrants, Yang Pang and Zi Yang, with double bagels at the opening round match of the WANLIMA International Women’s Open 2011, a WTA
event held in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China. They registered an amazing 6-0, 6-0 score line to secure a last eight spot on Tuesday.
The beaming Aussies stormed into the outdoor hard courts of China and squeezed the unseeded pair of Pang Yang in just forty-two minutes. After displaying a flawless performance, they confidently advanced into the final eight.
The highest ranked pair of Gajdosova and Rodionova went berserk from the start of the game as they got the critical break in the opening game. They maintained their composure and wiped out remaining five games consecutively to
earn a bagel in few minutes.
Regardless of clobbering a lower first serve share of 59 percent as compared to Chinese’s 69 percent, the Aussies earned a superb 70 percent win on it. In addition to their exceptional performance, they saved the only breakpoint
faced and cashed in on all three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage.
The Australian duo kept momentum flowing into the final set and got the first blood again in the opening game. They improved their co-ordination as they faced zero breakpoint and converted all three breakpoint chances to their
advantage to earn the second bagel. Gajdosova and Rodionova also manifested a better first serve share in this set and registered a spectacular 88 percent win on it.
Next up for the seeds is the Taiwanese tandem of Hao-ching Chan and Yung-jan Chan who dumped Taiwanese Thai team of Yi Chen and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in straight sets to reach this spot.
The high spirited Taiwanese duo made a terrible start and after gifting away their serve twice, they went 4-1 down. However, they roared back by exchanging a break in the next two games to lower the trail by 2-5. The Chan pair
re-focused their strategy at this time and reeled off next five games in a row to seal the set by winning seven games to five.
They lost their rhythm again at the start of the final set and lost their opening serve in the first game. The Chan tandem fought back in the following game but lost their serve again in the third game to eventually trail 1-3.
The high spirited team did not raise the white flag and managed to get back on track. They hammed powerful groundstrokes with angled shots to reel off next five games in a row and clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
