My Gal and I will be leaving for Galapagos Island next Friday. I am very excited about it but, is there something there I must do or stay away from. This will definately be top three trips in my life. (and I haven't even taken the other top two trips)!

  1. its a paradise

  2. My husband & I are leaving in 3 days for the Galapagos !!!

We are spending 7 days on a catamaran,  kayaking off the boat every day to the islands to hike & snorkel, then 3 days in Quito before we have to head back.   This truly is going to be a trip of a life time.....until we head to Africa for a safari in Kenya in 2008 !

    Have a great trip.......

  3. I was there in '98 and it is AWESOME.   that was an El Nino year, so there was a lot more vegetation than usual....

Be sure to read a guidebook before you go; that helps...also, knowing a little bit of spanish is recommended so you at least seem to be making an effort.

You should see iguanas - there are land, marine and even hybrids (sterile animals produced by the mix of the other two; like a donkey) - sea lions are fun, but don't get too close...

    don't disturb any nests.

make sure you have a good pair of Tevas or Keenes - they'll cost $80 or so, but you will LIVE in that footwear.

    sunscreen!

be sure to spend a lot of time snorkelling; it's one of the best places in the world for that.  I saw rays, small sharks, sea turtles, lobsters...

    good luck and have fun!

  4. have a fantastic time - you must (and will ) snorkel with the sealions.  they are really friendly and inquisitive but won't bump into you!!  Don't touch them and keep away from the big males with a bulbous head because they can be territorial and attack you...we didn't have any problems...There are so many unique experiences it is the most amazing place.  treat it with respect and don't forget your sea sickness tablets!
