Galatasaray ISTANBUL defeats Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO in final of 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup
The final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women took place on March 27.
The city that placed host to the title match of the championship was Istanbul in Turkey. The two teams that competed with each other for the gold medal were Galatasaray ISTANBUL of Turkey as well as the Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO from Italy.
The final match of the competition took four long and thrilling sets to reach its close at the end of which the home team was able to end up on the winning side. The victory was the first time that the Turkish women’s squad was able to get their hands on
the trophy of the CEV volleyball championship.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-16, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
The first set of the match started off with the Italians under pressure as they were playing in the home ground of the rival team which was cheered on loudly by the spectators that filled the hall.
Therefore, it was not a tough job for the Turkish to come out strong and take the lead early on and stretch their advantage. Once they had the lead, the Italians kept on trailing behind but not close in the gap as the Turkish went on to secure the opening
frame of the game at 25-16.
The confidence generated by winning the first frame of the game made the Turkish team take dominance of the second set in the early stages. Despite the fact that the home team was looking strong, the Italians fought hard and got into a lead at 21-13.
However, an impressive performance by the Turkish swung things around in their favour as they got the lead at 22-21. The Italians were not ready to give up as they pushed themselves to secure the second frame at 25-22 and make the match reach a tie.
Unfortunately, for the Italians, the second set was the only one they could bag as the Turkish stayed dominant in the third as well as the fourth frames to get themselves the title by securing them at 25-23 and 25-22 respectively.
