Galatasaray ISTANBUL sweeps Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD – 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup match
The Challenge Round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup Women is currently underway in several of European cities with a first leg match held between the Serbian Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD side and the Turkish Galatasaray ISTANBUL.
The two sides faced each other in the Turkish capital of Istanbul. The total number of spectators that came to support the Turkish home squad were 1,200 while the venue of the match was the Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall.
The match that followed did not take long to reach its close as the home team completely smothered the guests by winning the match in a clean sweep. The final set scores stood at the following points: 25-14, 25-19 and 25-16.
The first set of the match started off with the home team coming out strong and getting themselves the advantage at 8-3. The Turkish did not let go of the lead and extended their advantage until the second technical time out at 16-6. As both sides came back
onto the courts, ISTANBUL did not take long to secure the opening frame of the game.
The second set of the match followed a similar pattern as the first one with the home side taking the lead and holding on to it while the guests kept trailing behind. As a result, the second set of the match was also bagged by the home team at 25-19.
The loss of the first two sets did not do much to boost the confidence of the guests as they only put in a half hearted effort which stood no chance in front of the performance of the Turkish squad. As a result, the home side was able to easily bag the third
frame at 25-16.   
The player that was able to earn the title of top scorer of the match stood to be Rosir Calderon of the winning side as she tallied a total of 18 points for her team. On the other hand, the top scorer from the losing side was Ana Bjelica as she kept the
pressure on her opponents by scoring 15 points in the entire match.
