Galatasaray ISTANBUL sweeps past Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD into final four of 2012 CEV Cup
A quarter final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women saw the Turkish team of Galatasaray ISTANBUL compete with the Serbian side of Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD.
The match between the two sides took place in the Serbian city of Beograd.
It did not take long for the Turkish squad to assert themselves over their Serbian opponents by making a clean sweep despite the fact that they were in their opponent’s home ground. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-20.
The coach of the home team, Ratko Pavlicevic, expressed his feelings on the defeat at the press conference held after the match in the following manner, “We have ended our European campaign for this season but we are not disappointed even though tonight
we lost in three sets. This was a unique experience for our young group.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the Turkish side, Dragan Nesic, shared his views by giving the following statements, “We are happy we made it to the semi finals but we want to advance to the final of the CEV Cup. Crvena Zvezda played better than they
did last week in Turkey but I am happy with the performance of my team.”
The home team started off the first set of the game in a dominating manner and were able to take the lead at the coming of the first technical time out. However, when both the teams came back onto the courts, the Turkish closed in the gap and bagged the
opening frame of the game at 25-20.
The second set of the match saw the Turkish take the lead for themselves at 12-7. The home team tried to close in the gap but the guests kept on extending their advantage at 17-12 and 22-16. Before long, the second set of the game also went the way of the
Turkish at 25-18. The third set followed the same pattern as the previous one with the win going to the Turkish at 25-20.
Next in line for the Turkish squad is the final four match of the tournament against the Romanian team of 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA.
