Galaxy of stars likely to be seen in Yonex Sunrise India Open 2012 – Badminton News
The badminton courts of India will certainly come into the limelight as a galaxy of stars is likely to be seen in Yonex Sunrise India Open, set to be held from April 24 to 29.
World Number one Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei, the World Number four Peter Hoeg Gade from Denmark, the Chinese maestro Chen Jin and former World and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat are just few of those top male shuttlers who are gracing the event with
their presence.
So far, Chong Wei and Peter Gade have confirmed spots in the London Olympics so prime class badminton is expected in the event as all other shuttlers will be stretching legs and swinging arms to fetch the maximum ranking points.
The Women’s event will see World Number three Wang Shixian and the World Number four Li Xuerui from China while the World Number five Saina Nehwal will be leading the national squad in the home event.
The Indian Open is throwing a golden chance to every shuttler to earn some valuable ranking points and the organisers are ecstatic with overwhelming response from the shuttlers.
Over 250 prime shuttlers of the world are expected to participate in this event as it is going to be the last event before the Olympic qualification period ends in May.
The officials are taking unusual steps to attract the spectators this year and they have announced free entry in the stadium to watch legends of the arena fighting for glory.
In its last edition, the Indian Open could not draw big crowds and many seats remained unfilled due to early exit of biggest Indian hope Saina Nehwal but this year the tournament will attract more spectators as India stands a fair chance to proceed in all
five categories of the event.
The badminton maestro Chong Wei will make a comeback after shoulder injury to defend his title and he will have relatively less trouble in absence of his Chinese archrival Lin Dan in the event.
Meanwhile, there have been rumours of sudden withdrawals from the top players just to avoid overstraining before the mega event of 2012 London Olympics but the Badminton World Federation has played down the chances of such pull-outs.
