Gale Force Ten triumphs at Ascot for the first time – Horseracing News
Gale Force Ten brought up his maiden victory at Ascot, by winning the Jersey Stakes (Group 3). He had appeared at this venue in the past too but failed to make history back then.
The three-year-old colt was given the best odds for winning the event and he did not disappoint his fans. However, the victory did not come easily for him and he had to battle quite hard from the start until the end.
He was left behind at the start and had to bounce back strongly towards the final couple of furlongs. It was not easy, as the overall distance to cover was just seven furlongs, which required all of the runners to start off strongly.
Despite that, the young challenger did a fantastic job and got into lead right before crossing the finish line. He only managed to win by a head distance, but it was enough to earn his camp a cash prize of £42,532.
Looking at this performance, winning trainer Aidan O’Brien said, “He fought back well. Joseph said in an ideal world he doesn't want to be in front so long so it helped him that the other horse challenged. He's a very hardy horse,
strong with plenty of pace. They were two very good runs in the Classics and he was probably entitled to do that.”
The veteran trainer does not seem to be sure about what distance suits his stallion and said, “I think he could step up to a mile or drop back to six. In his two Guineas he was finishing well but he travelled very strong today
and over six he wouldn't get to the front so quick, which might suit him.”
Gale Force Ten does not have a very good strike rate overall but his form in the ongoing season has been quite good. He has won three races until now in his career and two out them have come this year, which clearly shows that
he has improved a lot. If he continued delivering such results, he will definitely be given a chance to earn a name for himself in a Group 1 encounter.
