Men’s Singles shuttler Galih M had a perfect start in Djarum Sirnas Flypower Banten Open as he overpowered Alif Sridana in the opening match of qualifying round on October 16, 2012.
This hard fought encounter remained in full swing for three sets and both contenders displayed commendable fighting spirit throughout this 35 minute exercise.
The victorious shuttler prevailed in the opening and ending games whereas Alif Sridana could live up to the billing only in the second set.
Galih M, who plays for SGS PLN badminton club, earned the right to be in the next round with a favourable result of 21-14, 18-21 and 21-12.
He set the foundation of his dominance by pocketing first match point with distinction. He started the beating from very first stroke and kept his rival at the lower end all the way to game point situation.
Though, Alif made every effort to match his competitor’s skills but he failed to hit the mark when it mattered.
Galih did not squander this opportunity and swept the table with a seven-point lead in 21-14 total.
However, it was not an easy win for him as the opposing shuttler put him under huge pressure by claiming the second match point.
Alif Sridana showed superb finishing skills and brought the contest to the right balance. He played with cautious approach and stayed at the lower end in the opening rallies.
He gained a decent advantage by reaching to a respectable score position of 11 before the interval.
There was lot of sensation in second half of the set as Galih made swift progress and narrowed the gap in third quarter of the set.
Both contenders remained close on points table but then Alif reinstated his supremacy and finished this crucial set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-18.
The decider, unexpectedly, proved a one-sided affair as Galih did not give his opponent even a single chance to excel and blew him away with a gutsy knock.
He registered an overwhelming figure of 21-12 and reserved his spot in second stage of the qualifying round. Now he will lock horns with Yazin Arapat of Axelindo badminton club.
