Galimzyanov wins final stage as Martin tops overall standing of Tour of Beijing 2011

Katusha team’s Denis Galimzyanov won the fifth and final stage of Tour of Beijing 2011 outside the Olympic stadium on Sunday, October 9. Tony Martin retained his overall leader’s jersey.
At the beginning of the stage, three cyclists broke away from the peloton including, Alexandr Pliuschin (Katusha), Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil) and Francesco Reda (Quick Step). They maintained a lead of roughly two minutes for three laps before the others
caught up.
Galimzyanov crossed the finish line first to claim his victory. He even earned the green jersey for topping the overall points standing.
Juan José Haedo of Saxo Bank put up an impressive battle for the first place but landed at the runner’s-up spot. Meanwhile, Elia Viviani of Liquigas-Cannondale finished third.
When asked for his comments, Denis stated, “I am happy about the jersey of course, but I am happier about the stage. For me it is much more important. I am in good condition and I did my job but today was my last race for the season and to win the race is
amazing.”
Martin secured the overall lead with the timing of 13 hours, 39 minutes and 11 seconds.
“It’s really nice to have a victory and makes me so proud to win the first race here. But we had a very strong team that was pulling the whole time and I have to thank them for the win. The whole team was magnificent,” he said.
David Millar (Garmin-Cervelo) followed behind 17 seconds later, securing second place. Sky’s Christopher Froome finished 26 seconds behind Millar.
Igor Anton Hernandez attained the overall King of Mountain jersey with 22 points while Benjamin King triumphed as the best rider in the young rider classification.
