Galina Voskoboeva breezes into the final qualifiers at Brussels Ladies Open
Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva stunned fourth seeded British Anne Keothavong with a bagel on Sunday evening. She registered a 6-3, 6-0 accomplishment to advance in the final round of qualifiers of the 2011 Open de Bruxelles, a WTA Premier
event held in Brussels, Belgium.
The charged up Kazakh, ranked 291st in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, kept her current form at Royal Primerose Tennis Club to triumph over the British lad, ranked 183 places above her, in just sixty-eight minutes.
Voskoboeva is in top form this season as she won the ITF title at Casablanca before storming into this red clay court event.
Playing Keothavong, she saved five out of seven breakpoint faced and converted all three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to win the opening set with a convincing 6-3 score line. She produced a much better first serve
share of 67 percent as compared to Keothavong’s 52 percent and registered an impressive 62 percent win on it.
26-year-old raised her level of game in the second set and earned an amazing 75 percent win on her higher first serve share. Voskoboeva unleashed flurry of ground strokes to reel off first six games in a row to seal the set with
a bagel. She faced zero breakpoint and converted three out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to clinch easily.
27-year-old British woman on the other side of net had a mediocre season so far. She managed to reach the semi-finals at Johannesburg ITF recently which was the furthest she could progress this season.
In this match, she found equal number of breakpoint opportunities but only managed to convert two to her advantage. In addition to this, the British woman saved only one out of seven breakpoints conceded to eventually exit from
the tournament disappointingly.
Another player who registered a similar score line was the fifth seeded American, Irina Falconi. Ranked 116th in the world, Falconi took less than an hour to slaughter the world number 263 Andreja Klepac later that day.
The American saved one out of two breakpoints conceded and converted five out of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to pocket the match. She produced a higher first serve share of 78 percent as opposed to Klepec’s
65 percent and earned an acceptable 61 percent win on it.
The only other qualifying seed joining Falconi will be the top seeded Estonian, Kaia Kanepi. The seeded Estonian registered a straight set victory over the Colombian Mariana Duque Marino to advance in this event. She clobbered
five double faults but converted three out of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-4 score line.
