Galina Voskoboeva breezes past Olga Govortsova
into main draw – Kremlin Cup 2011
Top seed Galina Voskoboeva overshadowed Olga Govortsova in the final qualifying round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two old fangled rivals battled it out on the indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. After
one hour and twenty one minutes the top seed Kazakh managed to secure a place in the main draw of the event ousting unseeded Belarusian Govortsova in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4 on Monday the 17th of October 2011.
Voskoboeva decided to initiate the opening round as she had won the service pitch and she expertly handles her first service game to commence the scoreboard to 1-0. Govortsova trailed behind her and she too held her service game
to place herself on the scoreboard at 1-1. Matching a blow for a blow, the players broke each other back-to-back to tie the score at 2-2.
It was in the fifth game that Galina held her serve and then capitalized on a breakpoint to reel off with straight two games and in doing so; she took the lead at 4-2 by the end of the sixth game. During the last three games the
players held serve and as they did; Voskoboeva clogged away with the opening set, 6-3.
The second set of the match was initiated by Govortsova and she barely handled her serve to open the scoreboard at 1-0. Voskoboeva also followed in her footsteps but easily handled her first serve and placed herself right beside
her adversary at 1-1. In the next two games both the players won a game on their respective serves and the score tied at 2-2.
After battling a few deuces Govortsova eventually double faulted on her second serve during the fifth game and endorsed an extremely crucial breakpoint to her adversary. The top seed in the sixth game successfully held her serve
to take the lead at 4-2. As the players matched a blow for a blow, they once more held their serves and in the last two games they bagged a game each which resulted in Voskoboeva sealing her victory of the second set and the match.
The top seeded Kazakh managed to secure a place in the main draw of the Kremlin Cup 2011 and also secured a 1-0 lead in her head-to-head with the Belarusian.
