Galina Voskoboeva downs Hyun h*i Hong to enter round two – KDB Korea Open 2012
Kazakhstani challenger, Galina Voskoboeva, dumped the local wild card entrant, Hyun h*i Hong, with a breadstick at the KDB Korea Open Tennis Championship 2012 on Tuesday. She joggled up a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the 20-year-old to progress into the second round at this outdoor hard court event held in South Korea.
The Kazakhstani star brought her experience into handy and subsequently stomped over h*i Hong in their first encounter. After registering the success in 55 minutes, Voskoboeva convincingly secured a place in the round of 16 at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event.
Voskoboeva cruised to a 3-0 lead with a break of serve after entering the Seoul Olympics Park Tennis Center. After h*i Hong held her serve in the fourth game, the Kazakh pocketed the last three games and pulled out the opener with a breadstick. She wiped her entire serves without facing any hindrance and converted two out of four break chances to his advantage.
Ranked 68th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Voskoboeva lost her track towards the following set. She failed to block the lone breakpoint she faced in the second game and fell at 0-2. However, the Kazakh made a stunning reply as went on a six-game killing spree and sealed the set with a 6-2 win. She availed three out of seven break opportunities to earn the glory.
Overall, Voskoboeva coughed fewer unforced errors and produced a better first serve share of 64 per cent as opposed to the Korean’s 48 per cent. She also acceptably marked 21 out of 27 points on it and finished the match with 56 points.
Next in line for Voskoboeva is the third seed, Kaia Kanepi from Estonia. The Estonian number one slaughtered the local wild card recipient, Sung Hee Han, with a bagel to reach this spot.
The sixth seed, Varvara Lepchenko, will join the Kazakh in the following round. She fended off late resistance to triumph over Italy’s Camila Giorgi in straight sets in one hour and 35 minutes. The American seed was broken three times but cashed in half of the 10 break opportunities to pocket the match.
