Galina Voskoboeva expels Ekaterina Makarova in 1st round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Unseeded Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva got rid of number eight seeded Ekaterina Makarova in the opening draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. Both the players battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South
Korea on the 20th of September 2011. After one hour and forty eight minutes of play, unseeded Voskoboeva won in straight sets of 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Voskoboeva won the pitch and opted to serve initially, but it was a bad start as she was broken in the first game by the eight seeded Makarova, who then went on to holding her serve in the second game.
Makarova’s performance was proving that she was rightly seeded at number eight, as she again broke her opponent in the third game and by holding her own in the fourth was leading 4-0.
A little late in the match, perhaps but Voskoboeva was soon to realize that if she didn’t make comeback she would lose the opening set. In the fifth game Galina won on her serve and in the sixth was finally able to break her opponent
and was now a break and game down.
In the following two games Voskoboeva, broke her adversary and won on her serve to square off the score at 4-4. By the end of the ninth game, the Kazakh had smashed an ace at 40-15 and managed to hold her serve but the most amazing
part was when she actually forced an error from her adversary to seal her victory of 6-4.
Voskoboeva displayed a splendid performance as she made a returned from 0-4, to win the remaining six games in a row.
Opening the second set was again the Kazakh the players won on alternate serves in the first eight games to level the score at 4-4.
The two were neck on neck into each other but as Voskoboeva held her serve in the ninth game, she got the mini lead she required and was now looking to break her opponent to seal her victory.
In the tenth game as Makarova served, she double faulted under pressure on her second serve and fortunately for Voskoboeva she won the set and the match.
Voskoboeva defeated the eighth seeded Makarova in a flawless victory of 6-4, 6-4 and was able to reserve a spot in the second round of the event.
