Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 was disappointed by his side’s performance in the 2-1 defeat against reigning English Champions Manchester City last night.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 player joined Tottenham in 2010, and has become an integral part of the squad. The Frenchman is a regular starter for the team, and is a reliable and solid presence in the Spurs back-four.
Though not as good as he was, Gallas still packs bags of Premier League experience, and hopes to win silverware with Tottenham this season.
The Frenchman played out the full 90 minutes last night at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City. Having taken the lead initially, Tottenham looked the better team throughout the first half.
Steven Caulker had given the visitors the lead after City goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 made a mess of things and let the ball in. Tottenham then looked calm and composed as they kept the City attack at bay.
The second half saw fortunes turn as City grabbed an equalizer through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953.
The hosts then brought on Edin Dzeko in the second half to change things up, and the Bosnian made his case for a starting spot in the team by scoring a phenomenal volley in the dying minutes of the game.
The champions were now leading, and held on till the final whistle. The Tottenham players looked beaten and tired, and having been the better side for the majority of the game, they really should’ve managed at least a point from the game.
Gallas believes that the team’s performance cost them dearly, and he said:
“I think we can play better. We didn’t keep the ball very well and that was key to the game.”
“We tried to defend very well but City pushed up a lot and changed their tactics. They played with three at the back and started to push us but we were very frustrated because we didn’t have the occasion to score a second goal.”
Gallas still remains optimistic, and believes that Tottenham can still finish in the top 4. He added:
“If we believe in it maybe we can finish in fourth position but there are so many teams who want to finish fourth as well.”
