Tottenham Hotspur defender and skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 has blamed fatigue and tiredness for their 2-1 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, and insists that Tottenham could use a bit of luck.
The French centre-half was disappointed after the defeat, and was unable to hide his feelings when he spoke to reporters. Tottenham had been ahead of Everton and level on points with Chelsea and West Brom going into the game, sitting comfortably at 4th
spot.
A win or draw would have ensured their place in the top 4 for another week, and marked their fourth consecutive league victory.
However, they were given a shock when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 scored a diving header to cancel out Clint Dempsey’s opener.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nikica-Jelavic-c27906 then scored another after only 88 seconds, tucking home a first time effort to give his side the lead, and ultimately the 3 points.
The defeat drops Tottenham down to 5th, trailing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 by 3 points and level on points with Everton, but behind on goal difference.
This was a golden chance for manager Andre Villas-Boas’ men to close the gap up top, but whenever they have come close, they have bottled it.
William Gallas was disappointed after the game, and slammed the team’s inability to see off games. The Frenchman also blamed fatigue and tiredness. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“Was tiredness an issue? Yes. We played on Thursday. Even if we had three days to recover it is not easy, but when you want to win competitions you have to play every game. We know that so when we go on the pitch we don’t think we played three days ago,
we just go on the pitch and try to fight.”
“However, sometimes it is not easy, especially at this time of the year because we play so many games that it is not an excuse. What we have to know is that the game is never finished until the referee blows his whistle.”
