Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 revealed that manager Andre Villas-Boas has held a meeting with his defenders in an attempt to prevent the late goals they have conceded in their previous games this season.
Tottenham have so far conceded 10 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this season in the Premier League, which has cost them significant points. Their tally is tied to bottom side Reading, and paints a very worrying picture for Villas-Boas.
The inability to hold on to leads and keep their clean sheet intact has cost them dearly. An interesting stat reveals that had all the games ended at 80 minutes, Tottenham would have been at the top of the Premier League.
The last game that saw Tottenham throw away a lead and end up losing the game was the 2-1 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park. Spurs had been leading through a second half Clint Dempsey strike, and looked set to win the encounter as the game wore on.
The goal was the only thing separating the sides as stoppage time approached. However, two quick late goals saw Tottenham lose the game. Goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019, who moved up to 4th spot at
the expense of Tottenham.
Last week’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City has pushed Tottenham back into 4th, but Villas-Boas is still worried about the late goals they have conceded. The manager held a meeting with his defenders yesterday in order to discuss what measures they
should be taking.
Gallas revealed what had gone down during the meeting and said:
“We have had a meeting with him because we have been conceding late goals and we have to be a little more focused, a little more strong. Sometimes, maybe we are panicking and we have let goals in. So we’ve been working hard and we have had some meetings
to look at videos to see what is good and bad, against Swansea it was good to keep a clean sheet.”
“In the Christmas period, we have a lot of games and players are tired. They have already played more than 20 games this season, which is a lot. It is very intense.”
