Galle Cricket Club v Sri Lanka Army Sports Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group B) – Sri Lanka Army Sports Club win by 56 runs
A stellar 7-wicket haul from Ajantha Mendis took the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Army Sports Club to a 56-run win over the Galle Cricket Club, in their Group B match during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played on December 30 at the Galle International Stadium.
The game commenced with Galle winning the toss and choosing to bat first, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BAW-Mendis-c1127 (7.5-1-23-7), assisted by Janith Silva (8-0-40-2), bowled them out for an unsatisfactory final total, allowing just four batsmen to progress beyond single digit scores.
LM Helambage (48) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahdurage-Hirantha-Wijesinghe-c73805 (14) and Rohit Damodaran (11) managed to get starts, but failed to turn them into anything substantial.
The remainder of the players could do little but submit as Ajantha Mendis razed through the Galle CC’s batting order, and ended with a hat-trick as a final flourish, sending http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Merenchi-Kankanamge-Primal-Buddika-Kularatne-c75631 (4), Rajith Priyan (0), and Jeffrey Vandersay (0) back to the pavilion in the 39th over, to restrict the Galle CC to a final total of 142, all out.
The target was far from challenging and the Army SC did not spend more than 21 overs in chasing it down during an innings interrupted by rain, despite the best efforts of Kaushalya Gajasinghe (4-1-25-2) and Rideegammanagedera (4-0-18-1).
Opening batsmen Rishan Kavinga (28) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Seekkuge-Prasanna-c89140 contributed a quick-fire 23 off 13 before Rideegammanagedera snapped him up in the 16th over, leaving the team at 104 for 3.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Downdegedara-Asela-Sampath-Gunaratne-c54651 (4*) took it from there, however. By the time they got the team up to 113 within 20.1 overs, the match was called off owing to rain. As per D/L calculations, the target was 58 runs from 20.1 overs, and as a result, the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club ended by securing a comprehensive victory by a margin of 56 runs.
