Galle Cricket Club v Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group B) – Match Update – Galle CC win by 44 runs
A 5-wicket haul from Kaushalya Gajasinghe played a pivotal role in enabling the Galle Cricket Club to secure a 44-run win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Navy Sports Club, in their match played during the Premier Limited Over Tournament, at the Galle International Stadium on December 11.
The Galle CC decided to bat first after winning the toss – however, the Navy SC’s Dulanjana Mendis (10-4-16-5), Yohan Kumara (8-0-33-2), and Buddika de Alwis (10-1-26-2) did not allow them to rest easy.
The top-order batsmen failed to put up a fight and were polished off early – Kumara took care of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Merenchi-Kankanamge-Primal-Buddika-Kularatne-c75631 (6) was trapped lbw by Mendis in the 11th over, leaving the team at 23 for 3.
Coming in at number four, Rumesh Rangana (14) continued the disappointing trend, and de Alwis wasted no time in sweeping him, and his successor Kaushalya Gajasinghe (7), off the crease. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Rideegammanagedera-c44747 top-scored for the team with a mediocre 27, and his innings was soon snuffed out by Mendis, who went on the rampage and cleaned up most of the middle and lower order.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amila-Chathuranga-Weththasinghe-c43966 (7), Rideegammanagedera, Rajith Priyan (2), and Umega Chaturanga (1) were all sent back to the pavilion by Mendis, and while the efforts of Irosh Samarasooriya (25) enabled the Galle CC to painstakingly work their way up to a triple-digit score, he too was eventually dismissed, by Supeshala Jayathilake. In the end, the team was cut off, all out, at a paltry final total of 125.
However, the Galle CC made up for their insipid batting performance by executing a successful defence of the team total. Kaushalya Gajasinghe (7.4-3-6-5) led the charge, bowling a spell which was characterised by astonishing economy, and was supported in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jasenthuliyana-Umega-Chaturanga-c66391 (10-3-14-2) and Rajith Priyan (4-1-17-2).
Together, they managed to ensure that the Navy SC did not come anywhere near their target. Yohan Kumara (31) and Avishka Peiris (15) were the only two batsmen who were allowed to register double-digit scores, while the rest failed to put up a fight. Eventually, the Navy SC were bowled for a dismal 81, and the Galle CC went on to claim a comfortable 44-run win.
