I am planning on taking a cruise in February and im trying to buy airfare, but I do not know which is the best airport to fly into. We are leaving from salt lake city and i think flying into houston (is this the closest?) but once there, does anyone know how to get to the port? transportation options? Anything would help thanks!

  1. I few years ago I took a cruise out of Galveston.  What we did was fly into Houston and then we purchsed the cruise ships transfer option which provided us a comfortable bus ride from Houston airport to the cruise dock in Galveston.  It was convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced.

  2. go to galveston.com

they will have numbers of shuttle services.

also talk to your cruise line. You can find out what their travel arrangements they make for customers and then just do what they do(except on your own)

  3. I don't know which cruise line you are taking but here's the information from Royal Caribbeans' web site on getting to the cruise port from the airport in Galveston:

    Port of Galveston

    2702 Harborside Dr. Pier 27

    Galveston, TX

    Directions:

From George Bush International Airport (IAH):

Exit the airport and turn right onto Eastex FRWY/US-59.

Merge onto US-59 S via the ramp- on the left.

Take I-45 south to Exit 1C, and turn left (east) onto Harborside Drive/Hwy 275.  Continue about 4.7 miles to Kempner / 22nd street (which is the street leading into the Cruise Ship Terminal entrance), and turn left.  The are adjacent to the terminal is for loading/unloading luggage curbside only.

It would appear that IAH (George Bush Airport) is the one they expect people will use.  But here's the Galveston cruise port web site for more information:

    http://www.portofgalveston.com/cruiseinf...

  4. There are 2 airports in Houston

    Bush international and Hobby

Hobby is closer to the island.  You can take a cab or you can go via "Galveston Limo" company.

You can make the arrangements at Glaveston.com

  5. Hobby is closer to Galveston at approx. 40 miles.  Bush Intl is about 70 miles from the port.  Hobby is a smaller airport with less airline options but much preferred over Bush.

If you chose Bush Intl, be sure to allow several hours to travel across Houston to get the Port of Galveston.  Better yet, you should consider arriving the day before your cruise departure and staying in a hotel to ensure you are able to embark on time.

I would use a local transportation service instead of renting a car.  Check out http://www.galvestoncruiseshuttle.com/

They specialize in airport to cruise terminal transportation.
