Question:

Galway Keenans or Cormican names dating from 1860's +?

One upon a time, a Martin Keenan married a Mary Cormican in the parish of Clarenbridge, Galway. Along came my lovely grandmom Mary (of course Mary) before they came to the states. Another name on the marriage certificate was Honor or Honora Cormican - presumably a sister of the bride.

I realize this is way back, but I'm in touch with other grandchildren who have basically stayed in one spot all these years in the Boston area, so it's possible the same happened with their siblings 2-3 gens ago in Ireland.

If anyone can think back to grands or great-grands name Keenan or Cormican with given names similar to these, please let me know. I'd love to hear about them.

I'll be visiting Galway next year (I hope). I'd love to visit the cemetaries and other areas for more research.

kind regards and thank you for your answers,

Laurie C.

  1. UK answer.

Do you have a birth year for Martin and Mary, at the moment I'm more interested in Martin there are quite a  few to search through though, so any information I passed on to you at the moment might not be very accurate.

    hope this helps.

  3. You are in luck, since you have the marriage documentation, placing them in a known location.

My suggestion is to see how many church records are 'out there' (either online, or through LDS films) and see how much of the tree you can establish BEFORE you pack your suitcase.

Stop in at familysearch.org, and run Cormican as a search.. now look at the IGI entries for Ireland. This will give some leads on possible connections.

If you can make contact prior to going, it will be all the more special.
