Gambhir has a chance to prove his worth: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 – Cricket News Update
Pakistani former fast bowler, Wasim Akram, has backed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 to prove his worth to the selectors in the upcoming fifth edition of the Indian Premier League, starting on April 4, 2012.
Gambhir has received support from Akram after he was stripped off the vice-captaincy of the national team, following the conclusion of Commonwealth Bank tri-series last month. The Men In Green legend reckons that the left-hander has every right to feel hard
done, but has backed him to come good in the IPL with KKR.
"I don't know about him and what he feels but if I were Gambhir then definitely I would have thought 'you removed me from the vice-captaincy and my goal would have been to win this IPL and prove a point,” said Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) bowling coach.
The left-handed batsman was appointed deputy to skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, whose bludgeoning knock of 133 off
86 balls against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 during the CB series brought him in contention for the vice-captaincy position before the selectors opted to elevate him permanently.
Akram though disagrees with the stance taken by the national selection panel and feels that the added responsibility on the young shoulders could back fire. The former left-armer pacer was also adamant that the youngster needs to work for the next five years
in order to succeed as a potential candidate.
“It is a tough job to be India’s vice-captain. I feel senior players like Sehwag and Gambhir will not be happy with this,” Akram said recently.
Gambhir, apart from vice-captaincy, has also led the national side on six occasions in his career, where he has a hundred percent winning record. In his eight years of international cricket, the left-hander has represented his country in 48 Test matches
and 134 ODIs, scoring 19 tons and 50 half-centuries in both the formats of the game.
The 30-year-old left-handed batsman is all set to lead the KKR franchise in the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament.  Despite Kohli being the preferred choice, the event will offer an opportunity for the veteran to force the selectors to re-consider their decision.
