Gambhir plays down the his alleged preference to club over country
In a bid to counter propaganda and widespread criticism against him for his injury-forced pull out of India’s West Indies tour, the Indian top order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, has strongly denied the common view that he has preferred club over country.
He has clarified that he and the Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians.
Having picked up a shoulder injury during his second last match, Gambhir has been rendered unfit for Team India’s upcoming tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 for a bilateral series.
As per the rotation policy of the BCCI, the Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, was on rest and Gambhir was to lead the team.
Gamhir’s injury and subsequent unavailability has provoked the critics to start a hot debate about the club versus country clash as they argue that the batsman has deliberately aggravated his injury by playing the Eliminator.
Gambhir and the KKR officials are not ready to accept this notion as they claim that they had brought the issue in BCCI’s notice but the board did not prevent the skipper from playing.
Talking to the media today, the one-down batsman said, “It is ridiculous to say that I chose club over country.”
The Kolkata management, despite the fact that they have been hurled out of the tournament, is all geared up to defend the stance of their skipper whom they purchased with the highest ever IPL bid, $2.4 million.
The KKR Chief Executive Officer, Venky Mysore, says, “The last match we played in Kolkata, we took immediate steps to ensure that we have precautionary scans done. That's the basis on which report was sent to the BCCI. I can say that we did not hide anything
from the BCCI as a matter of fact.”
After a MRI scan, the doctors have advised Gambhir to have at least six to eight weeks of rest.
Gambhir is also likely to skip Team India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 tour that is due later this summer.
The Indian all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539, is likely to lead the Men in Blue in place of injured Gambhir.
