Game 1 of ALDS suspended due to rain, rescheduled on Saturday – MLB Update
The fans will now have to wait until Saturday night as the first outing of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers has been suspended due to heavy rain and will take place on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in New
York.
Only one inning and the top of the second were played when heavy rain broke out and forced the umpires to stop the game and adjust their rescheduled time on Saturday. Game 2, which was scheduled to be played on Saturday, has now been moved to Sunday at the
same venue.
Umpires waited for one hour and 17 minutes before announcing the suspension of the outing. At 10:24 p.m. when the game was suspended, the spectators were still present with the hope to see their heroes in action, but this news proved disappointing for them.
However, after the stadium administration authorised all those fans having tickets to reuse these on Saturday, the fans went home.
Sabathia aced the second inning taking Alex Avila and Ryan Raburn while the game was tied at 1-all in the top of the second inning. Sabathia has given one run in the top of the first inning and has made a perfect rebound.
However, before Justin Verlander entered the field to make his retaliation inning, heavy rain started and forced him to wait until tomorrow.
According to Saturday’s weather report there are chances of rain again. Major League Baseball’s Executive Vice President of baseball operations, Joe Torre stated that both teams will have to face the same issues.
Torre conveyed to the media a report showing chances of rain on Saturday night as well.
However, if the conditions remained the same, then things will be handled on Sunday, as commented by Torre.
"If that's the case, we're going to have to look at Sunday in a different way," Torre said.
Both teams management and all of the fans will be hoping that it does not rain and that the game and proceed as scheduled. Tensions are mounting high, as the play-offs tend to bring out the most competitive aspects into play. Obviously, both teams will be
looking to get in a good performance and go one up against their rival as this series will be hard fought throughout.
