Game 3 of NLCS between San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals remains collision-free
San Francisco Giants' second baseman Marco Scutaro appeared in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, October 17, dispelling and putting to rest all the rumours that he might miss remainder of the games.
Scutaro had a collision with Matt Holliday in Game 2 wherein he had ended up with a left hip injury and could not play in the rest of the innings. However, Wednesday saw him smash two hits.
Also, much as the debate kept raging on the collision incident, Wednesday’s game was relatively clean, witnessing no such event again. Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny suggested both the teams move past it.
"I'd be more confident if you guys didn't keep asking about it," he said. "But it does keep coming up. So it's going to stay alive as long as it's handled this way."
Mike Matheny still believed Holliday tried to handle it right. For him, both teams, since the incident, have shown maturity and grace in dealing with the issue.
Matheny said, "I think everything has been said that's going to be said. I thought Matt handled it the right way. I believe that the Giants have handled it in a classy way, as well, and everybody is trying to move forward. And so we're going to try to allow that to happen. But now, it's about moving forward."
Wednesday’s game was one of the tough match-ups played in the NLCS wherein both the Cardinals and the Giants did their best to prevail, culminating with the former’s success. That which added to thrill was its being competitive but not as aggressive as was being anticipated.
As both the Cardinals and Giants want to move past the incident, the remaining games of the National League Championship Series are expected to be free of the ostensible antagonism witnessed in Game 2.
The Cardinals, with their 2-1 lead, seem confident at this point in time. Having successfully made it to the NLCS, they are now eyeing the World Series championship, the title they are defending this year and surely want to be defending next season as well.
