Game 4: Edwin Jackson to start for the Cardinals against the Phillies – National League Division Series
Edwin Jackson of the St. Louis Cardinals has been slated to start the Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday, October 05. The former White Sox pitcher, Jackson has thoroughly impressed his new team.
The player’s distinctive attribute is his versatility in both pitching and batting. Although he is generally regarded as an outstanding pitcher, Jackson has also demonstrated his brilliance on the batting front.
Ever since he joined the St. Louis Cardinals on July 27, he has maintained a .308 average with 26 at-bats for the St. Louis Cardinals for last few months. He has two important RBIs to his credit.
If that does not prove his excellence, Jackson’s RBI was instrumental for the Cardinals victory over the Brewers by 2-1 in the last week of August.
Having an ERA of 3.79 in pitching, he has had 12 wins to his credit this season in the 32 games that he played in, having started 31 of them. For the Cardinals, he had 5-2 and 3.58 ERA in the last 13 games.
He knows he has been unusually lucky. "Man, it's just a stroke of luck, [like] swinging with my eyes closed," Jackson said. "[In the] National League, you get a chance to help yourself, which you don't have that luxury in the American League."
He is determined to raise the benchmark of his performance in his upcoming games.
“Any time you do get a chance and you can prove to the manager that you can handle the bat, it definitely keeps you in the game longer, whether you can bunt or you can hit and run. Or knowing [Cardinals manager Tony La Russa], sometimes he takes off the
bunt and hit and run, and he lets you swing away."
With his enviable talent and his complementing luck, Jackson would be extremely vital for Game 4 of the NLDS. The Cardinals have pinned enormous hopes on this player’s performance for Wednesday’s encounter against the Phillies.
