Game 5 of the semifinal series, Vancouver Canucks v. Nashville Predators: very important and historic
Game 5 of the semifinal series between the Vancouver Canucks and the Nashville Predators will take place tomorrow, May 7th, at the Bridgestone Arena.
Vancouver will have a chance to close down the series and become the first team to make their way into the Western Conference Finals.
The Canucks are in a very strong position but they have a reputation of going down from a 3-1 advantage.
A few days ago, the Canucks were 3-1 up against the Chicago Blackhawks but Chicago managed to crawl its way back into the series, winning the next two games. The series was level on 3-3 but Vancouver finally managed to win the game in overtime to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
"I think you go in to most playoff games wanting to win the next one", Canucks defender, Kevin Bieksa, said. "I don’t think you go in with a {cavalier} attitude. We realized last series how things went south pretty quickly and momentum built in the playoffs. Next thing you know, we're in Game 7 overtime".
One stat that the Canucks will be looking to forget is the fact that they are always in for trouble when they reach Game 5 and lead the series 3-1.
The Canucks maintain a 4-4 record with regard to a fifth game with a 3-1 lead in the series.
The Canucks have lost all three chances they got to wrap up a series in five games since the 2003 season. They have been completely outscored in all these games, 13-2.
The all time records in the franchise’s history consist of winning 12 games. However, with regard to their current position, they have lost 11 games.
The last time they recorded a win in Game 5 of a series was against the Chicago Blackhawks in May 2010.
The Canucks’ defence is also getting better with each game. Their goalkeeper, Roberto Luongo, is also regaining his form that once made him the best goalkeeper in the league.
He maintains 1.50 goals conceded average and 0.949 saves percentage, currently.
Game 5 is no better for the Predators as they too have managed to win only one out of the last seven playoff series’ Game 5s.
