Hi I really want to start a career in game design but I'm not a great artist. I can draw a little and maybe with help I could become a better artist, but do I really need to be able to draw that well to be a game designer?

P.S. What are some other qualifications and qualities a game designer must have?

  1. It depends what part of the game design you are involved in.  If you're doing the programming, you don't need to be an artist.

  2. Of course, you can be an excellent game designer and not be able to draw a l**k! There are many aspects to game design, and most of them require absolutely no artistic talent at all. However, if you want to make games while avoiding the artistic side, then you would need skills in either math/programing, storytelling/writing, music, or leadership. Even if you don't have any of these skills, then you could also focus on the business side of things, like handling the payroll or advertising. But one thing that you will absolutely need to have in order to get into the game industry at all is an acute attention to detail.

This is a great website to start learning about what you might want to do once in the gaming business: http://www.igda.org/breakingin/home.htm

    Good luck!

  3. first of all, drawing has nothing to do with it, you must be able to create 3d landscapes on computers, not paper.also, i heard that infinity ward is hiring, go to their site and look for "careers", than "job qualifications". hope this helps, and good luck with your future, hope you succeed:)
