“Game against Green Bay Packers will be a dogfight,” says New York Giants’ Brandon Jacobs—NFL News
New York Giants running back, Brandon Jacobs, unlike his excited teammate, Jason Pierre-Paul, believes that the team’s encounter against the defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers, is going to be a tough battle and said after defeating Atlanta
Falcons on Sunday, January 8, 2012, that the contest will be a ‘dogfight’.
The Giants defeated the Falcons, 24-2, in the wildcard game of the National Football League (NFL) to earn a matchup with the Packers next week. The winner of the game will qualify for the National Football Conference (NFC) final.
In 2007, when the Giants won the Super Bowl, they defeated the Packers in the Conference Championship game in the overtime.
Jacobs, who was also a part of that squad, said that the present Packers team is much more different and better than what it was in 2007.
“I don’t compare ’07 with this team. Green Bay is a very good football team, we all know that. They’ve got a great quarterback, they’ve got great wide receivers, they’ve got a great front seven that plays good, they’ve got good corners that play good on
the outside and it’s going to be a dogfight,” he said.
Earlier, defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul, claimed that the Giants would beat the Packers and take revenge of the defeat in the regular season.
“We are very confident. Last time (the Packers) came in here and they beat us (38-35 on Dec. 4), which they shouldn't have. It's going to be cold and the atmosphere will be theirs, but we're going to be ready to play.”
The Packers have only lost one game this season and are still the most favourable contenders to win the Super Bowl for the second straight year.
Their offence is led by quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who has career-high 4,643 yards to his credits. He completed 343 passes of 502 attempts while throwing 45 touchdowns and only six interceptions in 15 games of the regular season. He has a quarterback rating
122.
The only week point for Packers is their weak defensive line, which can be used upon by Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, who is also having the best season of his career.
Moreover, the Packers will also have to look for the Giants’ defence that surprisingly prevented the Falcons from scoring any touchdown or a field goal.
The only score the Falcons were able to get was through Giants’ own mistake when Manning intentionally grounded the ball in his own end zone to avoid a sack. As a result, the Falcons were awarded a two-point safety.
For the rest of the game, the Falcons, despite trying many times, could not complete a drive that would lead to scoring a touchdown or making room for kicker to score a field goal.
The Packers secured a first-week bye in the postseason and will play against the Giants on January 15.
