“Game day is pretty relaxing for me,” says New York Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese – NFL News
When the New York Giants step on the field to face different opponents, the level of anxiety and nervousness is felt equally by the players, coaches and millions of fans, but an entity, attached directly to the franchise’s operations, deems the game day
as the most relaxing one.
Yes, it is correct!
Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, shared information about his feelings during the game day on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
Being a general manager, Reese’s responsibility is to prepare the best team before the start of any season and leave the rest to the coaching staff and players.
Reese hunts talent, scout for the franchise, compile a list for the best possible players and offers them contract depending upon the negotiations.
And that is it!
His part is over and now it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to train the players, who would then go on the field to prove their selection.
Reese thinks that he does not feel nervy before or during the game because he cannot do anything to change the result.
“I am pretty calm before and during a game,” Reese said.
He added that:
“There is really nothing I can do, so there is no sense for me to get uptight about it. I can’t play, I can’t put on a helmet, I can’t call any plays, so I have a lot of confidence in our players and our coaches. I have full confidence that they will get
the job done. So, it’s pretty relaxing day for me on game day.”
Reese, who was brought under the line of fire by several fans earlier last year, said that he is unmoved by facing criticism, which according to him, is a part of his job.
Meanwhile, Giants’ co-owner and president, John Mara, has lauded his general manager and his ability to hunt proper talent.
While recalling the slump the team went through during the regular season of the National Football League (NFL), Mara said that Reese was among a few who still believed that the team could get better.
Now after a few months, the Giants are the National Football Conference (NFC) East division leaders and NFC champions, who are now going to compete for the Super Bowl.
"I can't say there were a lot of people, with the exception of maybe our general manager, who thought we were going to be here," Mara said.
No matter how much relaxed Reese gets during the games, his heart will certainly throb with excitement when his team will compete for the highest NFL honour against New England Patriots.
