13,000 PC gamers decided to show their frustration over the lack of Half-Life 3 related news by staging a gaming session of Half-Life 2 over the weekend.
Many term it as one of the games that gave life to narratives of the first-person shooter genre, as Valve’s original Half-Life is historically one of the most important titles in gaming history.
It was released around the same time that the first Halo game was and the two redefined what the genre was and where the FPS games of the future were heading towards. To put it briefly, the games set the benchmark for triple-A titles.
Half-Life 2 was just as big a success as the first game and instead of releasing a third part in the series, Valve decided to release episodic content which continued the story. In fact, Episode 1 and Episode 2 were brilliant on their own and have kept a majority of gamers more than satisfied for the time being.
However, it seems that Valve’s silence on the upcoming third part in the series is proving too much for some as they decided to protest the lack of news by spending the weekend playing Half-Life 2. 30,000 Steam account holders were scheduled to play the game but in the end only 13,000 showed up.
Before anyone terms that a failure, the number of players who play Half-Life 2 on Steam spiked by an impressive 10,000 players over what it normally is.
The organiser of the group stated that he was impressed by the turnout and felt that they managed to get the attention of the higher ups. He summed up his complaint in a manner that world leaders could learn from.
“While continued support for current and future products is greatly appreciated, fans of the Half-Life series have waited years for a word on when the franchise will return.”
He continued to explain that they carried out the protest in way that would not be disrespectful to anyone on any way or as he put it, “So, instead of focusing efforts in a negative and disrespectful way, we have decided to gain Valve’s attention by delivering a basic message.”
What do the users think? Will the protest move Valve to share any Half-Life 3 news or not? Let us know in the comments section below.
