Gan Teik Chai – Tan Bin Shen dropped from the Malaysian squad for 2011 World Badminton Championships
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles shuttlers, Gan Teik Chai – Tan Bin Shen, could not make it to the final Malaysian squad for the 2011 World Badminton Championships. The Championship will kick off in London, England, on August 8.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently revealed this disappointing news to the pair, which both the players accepted, despite the fact that they qualified for the event on merit.
The pair had been working hard to qualify for the World Championships and when they did, the BAM revealed the shocking news that they would not play in the mega event.
A disappointed Gan Teik spoke to the media, “Now, the BAM are telling us that we cannot go. It feels unfair because the world meet had kept us going. They should have told us (about the possibility of not being selected) a year before we even started our
journey to qualify.”
Gan Teik – Tan Bin are sponsored by Apacs and KLRC in their domestic and international events. The duo said that BAM should compensate them as they have got sponsors for the mega event.
Gan Teik went on to add, “But what do we say to our sponsors? Our sponsors funded all our trips to tournaments. We repaid their faith in us by qualifying for the world meet. I hope the BAM will look into ways to compensate us. They should make up for our
losses. We hope that they will be fair to us.”
Instead of sending the pair of Gan Teik – Tan Bin, BAM has announced that Hoon Thien How – Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif will join forces with the top Malaysian seeds Tan Boon Heong – Koo Kien Keat, at the mega event.
Ng Chin Chai, the secretary of BAM, tried to justify this decision of dropping Gan Teik – Tan Bin from the squad by saying that the decision has been made in the best interest of the country. He said that the governing body of Badminton always works with
complete dedication and takes steps which are beneficial for the nation.
