Ganguly discredits reports of retirement from domestic cricket
Former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly was shocked to hear media reports of his retirement from all forms of cricket, international and domestic. He said there had been some misunderstanding with the media and that he had not yet announced retirement
from domestic cricket.
He expressed frustration with the media for their irresponsible announcement.
Ganguly had announced retirement from international cricket after a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2008, but said he intended to keep on playing domestic cricket. He said the media must have misunderstood his statements. However, he has a condition for domestic
cricket too. He said he would play domestic cricket, but only if he played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “It was completely misunderstood. It was in a sequence of questions I had said that I would not play domestic cricket if I don't play in IPL. It
was said in a different perspective completely.”
Ganguly said playing cricket would be good for him as it would keep him fit. Talking about the fourth season of the IPL, he said he would play in the league if he got an offer from a participating team. He said that as long as there were opportunities, rejecting
them would not be wise. He added that sportsmen always wanted to add to their experience and credibility.
Ganguly had not been part of the players’ auction in IPL. Later, the Kochi team had approached him and wanted to include him in their team, but the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) had rejected the recommendation and Ganguly had been out of the
league.
He had expressed disappointment for not being selected along with the 70 other Indians in the league and the 10 participating teams. He was the top scorer in the previous Twenty20 tournament. Ganguly said the IPL was a huge platform for cricketers to be
facilitated by.
He said, “I had the runs. I scored more than 500 runs last year.” He added that he had scored more than other cricketers his age like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772, who are still actively involved in the game.
He said, “I don’t know why I was not picked. I haven’t been able to put the finger on the button why I was left out. Cricketing logic and past form suggests I should have been picked.”
