Ganguly implores critics to go easy on Pune Warriors – Cricket News Update
With Pune Warriors consigned to their ninth consecutive loss after the 34-run defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 has asked that the team be given some respite in terms of analysis and criticism, which is bound to come after
Pune’s dismal IPL5 campaign.
“Any post-mortem that needs to be done should be done after some time. Right now, the boys need to get away from here and go back to their respective homes. It's very hard for them too. They have selected to win matches and that hasn't happened,” said Ganguly
after the match.
The Pune Warriors, a franchise owned by the Sahara group of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, made their debut run in the Indian Premier League’s 4th season and finished 2nd last on the points table after 14 matches (4 wins and 9 losses). Ironically, their most
recent outing also sees them finish 2nd last, just above the Deccan Chargers, with 4 wins and 12 losses.
Ganguly, unfortunately, has borne most of the brunt, coming under fire for his individual performances and his decision to continue playing despite calls for retirement. The 39-year-old was captaining Kolkata Knight Riders in the initial seasons of the IPL,
before the Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise decided to drop him in 2010. Ganguly was then picked up by Pune, who were being led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364.
The 5th edition of the IPL saw Ganguly elevated to captaincy in Yuvraj’s absence, and he has been under fire for most of the season. His last match, against his former side KKR, saw his side falter chasing a 137-run target. With his batsmen failing
to fire, and Ganguly himself falling for 5, the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 crumbled at 102, losing the match by 34 runs.
Speaking at the post-match ceremony, Ganguly tried to back his players, and asked analysts to consider the fact that it was a new side, before putting the Warriors down.
“It's a new franchise and things will only get better from here on. We need to look at a lot of things like team selections,” he said.
Presently, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians and Chennai Super Kings occupy the top four spots on the points table, and it remains to be seen which side will claim the title.
