Ganguly was “rested” for match against Royal Challengers: Nehra – Cricket News Update
Pune Warriors’ medium-pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 was merely “rested” during the team’s clash with the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 11 at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune, and the supposed
controversy regarding the skipper’s status in the team has had no effect on the players’ performances.
“As far as I know, Ganguly took rest in the team's previous match against RCB and later I came to know that he is playing today [Sunday]. I don't know much about the so called controversy,” Nehra said.
“I don't think that this episode had any bearing on the performance of the players. We are here to perform, and no matter who the captain is, we try to give our 100 per cent. I have no idea about the other matters but I know that he was rested in the previous
match,” he added.
Ganguly’s captaincy and individual performances for the Pune Warriors (among the most expensive franchises in the Indian Premier League) have recently come under scrutiny at team management meetings, with officials unsure of how to deal with the situation.
The team has been on a downward spiral under Ganguly’s captaincy, and currently stands second from last on the tournament points table, having won only 4 of the 15 matches they have played.
In addition, the 39-year-old’s individual performances throughout the tournament have been mediocre at best, with his highest score being 41. Prior to the Warriors’ clash with the RCB, speculation was rife that Ganguly would be forced to sit out the team’s
remaining three matches, though a senior IPL official confirmed that the team management were reluctant to ask the skipper to relinquish the post, and were hoping that he would step down himself.
The rumours appeared to be confirmed as Ganguly did not feature in the Warriors’ line-up for their match against the Royal Challengers – an encounter which the visitors from Bangalore went on to win, in a comprehensive 35-run victory, as the hosts looked
on, under stand-in skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SPD-Smith-c2555.
However, the left-hander returned as captain once again during the team’s most recent match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals yesterday, leading to confusion regarding his status in the team.
The absence or presence of Ganguly, however, appears to have little effect on the team performances – the RCB match saw the team failing to deliver, as did the game against the Royals on May 13 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Already out of contention for the playoffs stage of the tournament, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium in Pune.
