  1. You should study what other students in your area study and then go beyond if you want a truly excellent education. If you haven't been keeping track of what others are learning, you might not be able to learn what you need to as quickly as you'd like to get into college soon.

For English, literature, grammar, spelling and writing are all important. http://www.writing-strands.com/writing-e... would be very good for learning how to write essays. If you haven't had much practice writing, you might consider getting some of the other levels of Writing Strands. For the literature, check out the list here http://www.deafhomeschool.com/study/read... . You might consider finding some novel study guides to get an idea of how these things are studied in school--it's not that different from how they're approached in college.

For history, you should check your state's curriculum and see what colleges are kind of expecting students to know.

You should think about what you want to study in college and find out what sort of things you should know before applying. If you need math or science or other things, you'll have to work on those, too.

To be honest, students usually start preparing themselves for college when they start high school and it takes all of the high school years to be ready for college. It can be done faster, but if you're only starting now to think about it, you may have to work long hours on a daily basis to catch up to where you need to be. Although, I have to wonder where you live, so maybe things are different there.

  2. sorry, been out of school a long time, and they've changed the SATs since I took them!  My dd is only 15, so we're not prepping her yet either.

I'd say, just be confident in what you already learned.  Cramming for entrance exams doesnt work a whole lot, your years of high schooling/homeschooling has prepared you for this.  Be confident!

If youre prepping for SATs, and are nervous, there are some places that specialize in SAT tutoring.  Check in with some of your neighbors that have recently entered college and pick their brains for advice.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. Start reading classics, Shakespeare, Romantics, etc

History - anything you like. You can take any history class you want.

As far as getting your mind ready, I say read complex, thinking books. The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged are good. Their huge and get the mind going and thinking complex
