Gantry seeks his first stakes race win in Jaipur Stakes at Belmont Park 16 July.
The 4-year-old dark brown colt, Gantry, set a Belmont Park record in an optional claiming allowance race under jockey John Velazquez, when the pair set record breaking fractions of 1 minute 6.87 seconds on 23 June, 2011.
Headed to Belmont Park yet again for the final graded stakes race of the spring/summer meet at the Belmont Park, Gantry entered the Grade 3 $100,000 Jaipur Stakes on 16 July.
This will be Gantry’s first graded stakes competition. He was rested after he broke his maiden, winning by 3 ¾ lengths at Parx racing.
Gantry came roaring back winning an allowance event in his turf debut on June 23. Trained by Michael Hushion, Gantry has worked really hard on Palm Meadows turf track. Hushion had an inkling that the four-year-old gelding will do well on turf.
Breaking a record at Belmont Park wasn’t part of the agenda when Michael Hushion set Gantry out to win the optional claiming allowance, but he came stronger to take the record by a mere .07 seconds.
Gantry, who is eligible for another allowance race will snub the opportunity and with the connections consent, participate in the graded stakes race Jaipur Stakes, which is run at a distance of seven furlongs on a wide turf course.
The four-year-old gelding son of Pulpit will be seriously tested after getting elevated to a Grade 3 right after the allowance. Ridden by jockey Mike Luzzi, Gantry is sent off as 2 to 1 morning line favourite for the race and will break from post number
6.
Gantry’s ultimate test will come from the Christophe Clement trained duo, Right One and Nordic Truce, who will be among the seven in the Jaipur Stakes.
Right One made his name in France as he was a two-time victor there, also coming up good in his first two starts in the United States racing circuit.
Right One picked up his first U.S race in the Gulfstream Park optional claimer on 1 April, further he got another at the Island Sun over night Stakes on 12 May.
Right One is the second choice favourite to win the Jaipur, sent off as the 5 to 2 favourite, will draw from post 7.
Jockey Javier Castellano will answer the call for Right One on the last graded stakes event of the spring/summer meet at Belmont Park.
Eddie Castro will ride the William Mott trained Evolutionist, who could prove to be a thorn for Gantry’s hopes to win his first stakes race. Last time at Belmont Park, Evolutionist finished fourth in an optional claimer run at 1 1/16 mile on June 16.
Ample talent will be displayed at the Belmont Park on 16 July, as Gantry looks to finish his competition off for his first stakes race win.
