Gap Year Ski?

I am planning on taking a year out before i go to uni and want to take a ski instructors course in Canada. I know they cost around £6500 ($13,000) but i am wondering if you have to pay that all before you go or you can work some of the debt off in the following ski season?

Thanks a lot :)

  1. go ahead and ask these guys but I think you are going to have to pay it up front.  When we were doing ski school in Utah, many years ago,  there were no fees to get into the school.  Indeed as you worked through your first season you received a percentage of the fees charged to students and could make a little money.  the site below specifically talks about gap years and has the 6,500 pound figure to use the school.

Examine your options.  I think that you can go through the same learning process with many resorts and not have to spend the money.

call your closest Ski Resort and ask the ski school if they have programs for beginning instructors.  You have left it late for this season but you are primed for next year.  You will have a ball no matter which way you go.  some of my best years were on the slopes!

  2. CSIA Level 1 course can be done over 4 days and costs only about $400. After completion of that course you can Immediately enter the Level 2 course that takes a week to complete and then any Level 4 skipro can certify you after evaluating your skiing ability.

with lodging and course costs you can become an instructor in 2weeks for about $2500cdn

the level one course is really easy and you'll pass it if you can basically just remain in an upright position.lol

most resorts won't hire an instructor unless they have received their level 2 certification but you can begin giving lessons with just level 1prep and review from a level 4 instructor so you can work it off as you go
