I recently (about 3 weeks ago) layed laminate flooring in a room in my house.

in between two of the boards near the door a 0.5cm gap has appeared! i cannot easily bring the boards up again as the skirting was glued on and it lies under the door.

Any ideas on how i can fill this gap and what with / or any other solutions?

  1. If possible, it is best to remove your molding, put some wood glue in the gap, and tap or pry it back together. If you absolutely cannot remove your skirting, you can try two things. First, (don't laugh it works) try putting some glue in the gap and then kicking the boards together with your shoe. Have someone stand on one board while you kick the surface of the other.

If that doesn't work, you can use a filler for the gap. Precision brand filler for laminate floors and countertops works well and can be purchased at Lowe's.

  2. Uh-oh.  You should have consulted a professional first instead of trying to do the job yourself.  You should have left a gap around the floor at the walls to allow for expansion and some movement.  The gap would have been covered by your baseboards.  Movement will occur normally with use and the seasonal changes. You have created a problem already by gluing the floor down.  It is supposed to be a "floating" floor.  If you don't want to have a professional come fix it, then use a colored caulking to match the wood.  Be prepared to have to repeat this several more times around the room as the wood expands and shrinks.

  3. Try stic putty and jam it in there.
