okay so yesterday i used some of my brother's braces rubberbands and put two on my two front teeth which had a gap. now after it has closed up, i am only wearing one for it to act almost like a retainer. is this a horribly bad idea?? i mean, my teeth arent shifting anymore now that im only wearing one rubber band around them and they arent going back to how the used to. should i just take them out and let it go back to normal or is this okay?? i really hate gap teeth=[ please help!

  1. Take them out!

I would check up with a orthodontist. It may cost some cash, but what you are doing could make your teeth worse, and lead to bigger over/under bites over even cross bites! Trust me i know! i used my sisters rubber bands, and had to go through 2 years worth of work before i got my braces, because i made things worse!

    I went through:

    impression - mold of teeth

spacers - makes spaces in your teeth

    impression

    palate expander

    impression

    plate retainer

    many x-rays

    impression

    wait for teeth to errupt

then duh duh duh da BRACES

    retainer

    then pretty teeth  x]

  2. Go to the Dentist.

  3. i hate gaps. i had one then i visited the dentist and they closed it up. it looks a lot better after than before. but if i were you i would visit the dentist. i really hated my gap but now its gone : ]

  4. the after picture makes your teeth look alot bigger! (not a good thing)

  5. TAKE OFF THE RUBBER BAND!!  My husband (a dentist) told me of a patient that did the same thing.  She would put the band on a night.  At first all went well, then she began waking to find the band missing.  Not long after several "disappeared", she quit the self-help orthodontics.  Well, her front teeth began to become quite loose.  When she went to the dentist he discovered that the bands had migrated up her teeth during her sleep and were now hidden beneath the gum line - they were interfering with the blood supply and nerve supply to her two front teeth!!  What a nightmare it turned into...

So if you want dental work done, go to a dentist.  It could be a lot less expensive in the long run.

  6. I'm not sure if you should do this...even though you're getting rid of the gap who knows what might happen to your teeth?  Can't you see an orthodontist or something about the gap? I don't like the sound of this "self-medication"...
