With this distributor getting it's 12 volts, I heard that it is best to gap the plugs and should. Bought new plugs and am getting everything ready. Need to replace timing chain and mess around with a couple other minor stuff, but just wanna get things ready. What should I gap be on these new plugs? Upgraded from points to HEI. Thanks all

  1. 37 to 42 thousands it helps the plugs burn hotter and get more spark

  2. When converting to HEI changing the plug gap should be .035 to .054

.054 is what thy should be now

  3. I go .050 when I upgrade to HEI, some people suggest .045 but I have had better luck at .050, the plugs last longer.

Do not stay with the .035 gap, the HEI will fry the plugs if they are that close and it defeats the purpose of the HEI, you want a longer hotter arc to ignite the air/fuel mixture.

I get 75000 miles from a set of plugs in a 1972 Elky 350 Chevy engine at .050

    Good Luck

  4. .035 to .045 play with it to run the best way the closer they the faster it will fire just watch the temp.

  5. typical spark plug gap for a 350 HEI is 0.035 inch.
