Bulls General Manager says Rose will only be allowed to return once they are confident that he is fully healed and there is no risk involved.
The Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman said on Thursday that he is happy with the recovery process of his franchise player Derrick Rose, and expects him to return to action sometime in the upcoming NBA season. Rose, the 2010-2011
regular season MVP and Bulls point guard, tore his left ACL during a playoff game against the Philadelphia 76ers this past season. He immediately underwent surgery on the knee and has been rehabbing ever since.
Forman made an appearance on “The Waddle and Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000, and talked about the progress of Rose’s injury, and when he intends to return to the court.
“He's doing great, and he's right on schedule. He's attacked this rehab and has been very focused, and we're really pleased with where he is right now. It's still too early to pinpoint an exact time when he'll be back, but everything
as of right now is right on schedule, and he's doing terrific. We're optimistic he'll be back at some point this year,” said Forman.
Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told ESPN 1000 a few months ago that he was not letting Rose return to the court until he was fully healed and ready to go. He said he wanted the doctors to put their name and reputation on the line
before he was going to let Rose return.
Rose was present at the Bulls media day on Monday, and talked about his injury and the progress he has made so far in recovering from it.
"Probably when I start cutting again (I'll feel I'm back), because right now cutting is the hardest thing in the world right now to do. And right when I think I get that out of my system I think I'll be pretty close,” said Rose.
The Chicago Bulls are leaving no stone unturned in their attempts to get Rose back to 100 percent health, knowing that he is the future of the franchise and the person who drives the whole organization. They have made it very clear
that they want him to be fully healed before he returns, completely eliminating the possibility of aggravating the injury or leading to further complications. Rose is expected to return sometime in March, and it would be a great surprise if he returns anytime
sooner.
