I installed a drive gear and a worm gear on my old motor and then when I reinstalled it it goes up fine but I have to push the button repeatedly to get it to go up. Follow the link to see what I mean.

  1. Sounds like the safety sensors (near the floor on the door track).  Did you disconnect them when you disassembled the opener?

An easy test to see if the safety sensors are working/wired correctly -- most openers will cause the light bulb to flash if there's a fault in the safety sensors while the door is closing (guessing you removed the light bulb too? I didn't see it in the brief image of the opener)

  2. not there....

the springs on the door actually raise it... the opener closes the door... are you sure  you have the gear on the motor tight?

  3. youtube.com lists the video as unavailable

That opener looks to be a LiftMaster / Chamberlain / Craftsman.

The opener may not have safety eye-beams if it was manufactured prior to 1993.  If it *did* originally come with them, the opener will certainly not function properly without them - and there is no way to bypass them.

Look the opener model number up on the LiftMaster website for details:

If the door is binding at all it may be triggering the safety stop / reverse mechanism in the opener.  Try running the door manually and see if it is binding.  If it is, then professional door service is in order.

The opener may also be fighting against an overwound spring.  The door, properly adjusted, should balance at all points of travel when manually operated.  If the door (disconnected from the opener) tries to pull up, the springs are maladjusted and need to be professionally serviced.

If the door is in proper working order, it is possible that the down force on the opener may be set too low.  Adjusting this is best left to a professional as setting it too high can cause damage to the door / opener / cars / animals / people.

  5. This will happen if the safety sensors are not aligned and I don't see them on your garage door.  If you tried to eliminate them that could be the problem.  Wow, your garage looks almost as clean as mine!

  6. It looks as though your safety features on your GDO are telling the GDO something is in the way and not allowing the door to close.  I would always check first to see if your sensors are functioning contiguously, there should be a light indicator on each sensor.  The GDO will always go up unless it is completely broken, it is part of the safety features built into the GDO.  One other thing to check is the gears, make sure there is nothing obstructing there function, this can also trigger the safety.  I hope this is helpful.
