Question:

Garage door opener with a high ceiling and a tall door?

I need to install a garage door opener on a garage door that is taller than most doors. On a normal garage door the track goes vertical a few inches above the top of the door and then horizontal back when it is opened. With a standard opener this works great. The j arm will account for the short vertical travel.

On the garage door I have the vertical distance is about 3 feet up and then about 5 feet horizontal back.

How would I connect a garage door opener to this? What kind of opener... etc?

Thanks!

  1. Your picture link doesn't work, but that's OK.  I understand your situation.

The door you are describing has a "high lift" track installed to keep the door closer to the ceiling when up.  Not real common, but not unique.

For this type of door, you need a jackshaft operator.  Mounts beside the door and works by turning the torsion bar.  See http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerweb/pr... for an example.  Of course there are others.
