Question:

Garbage Disposal Help?

Lately, I've been having a garbage disposal issue. When I flip the disposal switch to turn it on, the rubber insert in the sink is usually sucked down into the disposal or dislodged and water erupts from the hole. I've tried putting it back in place, but it keeps doing it. Any suggestions?

  1. Sounds as you have a drain problem, try using a plunger or drain cleaner.

  2. cogen seems to have answered the question, but if that doesn't fix it, it sounds like the whole disposal needs replacing.

  3. You can replace the black rubber insert.  Perhaps yours has gotten damaged or is just getting old and worn.  Hit-up your local hardware store.

Here's a super quiet one at Home Depot for $10.99

And a cheap regular one for $6.99

  4. The drain is clogged and the water is being blown back up by the spinning of the blades.
