Question:

Garbage disposal still jammed no matter what?

At first it was humming, I used instructions online to unjam whatever is stuck in there with a broom stick. Then it stopped humming and lost power. I have hit the red overload button and even turned off all power to the kitchen and it is still stuck with no power, no humming noise, what do I do now?!??

Thank you!

  1. be sure the switch is turned off

    next

be sure you pressed the red button in far enough

    next:

reset the circuit breaker in your breaker panel

once those two things are done, try the broom handle until you can turn the disposal plate.  be sure you can turn the disposal plate easily with the broom handle a few rotations before turning on the switch again.  if it starts but stops,  repeat the above steps.

you'll get it.  it probably has to chew up the obstruction.  run lots of water.

  2. The disposer may be done and you may need to replace it, try the main breaker panel first to see if it has tripped.

  3. MOST GRBDSPALS DO HAVE A HEX HEAD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT,BUT NOT ALL,TAKE A LONG s***w DRIVER OR PRY BAR AND PUT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF IT,ON EACH END OF IT ,,THERE IS 2 EARS THAT SWIVELS,APPLY PRESURE TO THE EAR,THIS MAY TAKE A COUPLE OF TRYS.

ONCE YOU FREE THE WHEEL,THEN TRY AND RESET THE RED BUTTON, IF THAT DOESN'T WORK CK THE WIRE NUTS UNDER THE BOTTOM PLATE AND MAKE SURE THERE ISN'T A BROKEN OR BURNT WIRE.ONCE YOU GET IT STARTED,RUN A 1/4 CUP OF BLEACH THROUGH IT,THIS WILL KILL ALL GERMS AND SMELLS.

AND IF NONE OF THIS WORKS,TEAR IT OUT AND PUT REG. PLUMBING BACK IN ITS PLACE,THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE A_  _ ANYWAY.

  4. I do this about 3 times a week in my apartment building.

Get a garbage disposal clearing wrench.

Jam it down into disposal and turn it forcefully until you can spin the blades. After you have got it to spin free reach down in there (Make sure it is off and or unplugged) and see if you can find anything that might be lose and grab hold of and pull it out.

On the lower part of the disposal might be a reset button press that, plug back in and turn it on.

I will usually dump a bunch of ice down there after I turn it on. I typically find bottle caps or coins that have been ground to a pulp.

  5. burned up or off on thermal overload, give it 30 mins and try unjamming it the proper way with the allen wrench that goes in the bottom of the unit from underneath and than turn back and forth to break it free. never stick anything into a garbage disposal dangerous very dangerous
