Garbage smells real bad?

Question

My garbage smells really bad, I threw out the garbage bag, replaced it with a clean one. I sprayed it with Febreez & also put an air freshner into the can (under the bag). I smelled the can and it smelled fine. Just hours later whenever I open the garbage can it still smells REAL bad, stinks up the whole kitchen.

Anything I can do?

What we do everytime we replace the garbage is wipe down the walls and the bottom of the can with lysol wipes. It killes the bacteria and keeps the smell away. If the problem persists , the garbage can is not able to get the smell out properly, so every time you open the can, as big smell cloud comes out. But try it. And add some dryer sheets to the bottom to help maitain the freshness. They also sell lysol spray with sent. It works great, saves the hassel of wiping.

wow at $80 bucks you'd think it would have an electronic built in air freshener.  Oh well.

What I would suggest is this.

1.  use a liner (garbage bag).  I assume you do.

2.  When you replace the bag, put a dryer sheet in the garbage bag before you insert the new garbage bag.  It will give you a fresh scent and it costs almost nothing.  

3.  When you take out the trash - throw away the old dryer sheet and replace it.

PS. make sure you washed in inside of the garbage can INCLUDING THE UNDERSIDE of the lid) before you replace the garbage bag.

Sounds like something got on the inside of the can or lid. Clean them inside and out real good. You don't mention if the can is in a cabinet. If it is in the cabinet (we had to do this to keep our pets out of the trash) look around the cabinet and see if something didn't make it into the can.

I was going to say throw it out, but it's kind of expensive, I'm thinking there is a problem with the plastic top. Make sure you clean it really good with vinegar or hydrogen peroxide.
