Sergio Garcia wants himself back in the mainstream
With the ultimate showdown of Ryder Cup coming close, Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia is making every possible attempt to ensure that he is back in the mainstream before the real action kicks off.
The beginning of the Ryder Cup will once again bring the best of golf from US and Europe. Garcia has enjoyed the luxury of securing his place in the Ryder Cup squad five times.
During the 2010 event, he served as the vice-captain for his team under the captaincy of Colin Montgomerie.
"It was great to be part of the team in the way that I was," said Garcia, as he plans to tee it off at the US PGA Tour.
Garcia is currently participating in the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club.
The 32-year-old golfer, however, feels that becoming the vice-captain for such a crucial event simply ties your hand behind your back, as you are more or less helpless in front of your very own team.
So he is more in a mood to allow compatriot Jose-Maria Olazabal to fulfil the purpose of captaining all, whereas, he shows concerns of scoring well.
"I love the Ryder Cup," Garcia said. "It's definitely one of the goals. I would love to make that team and help my teammates retain the Cup".
It is important to mention here that Europe emerged as the champion of the Cup last year.
Even though, after a struggling and motivation lacking season of 2011, Garcia was able to win back his form at the end of the year, securing commendable positions in last events of the season.
His bouncing back in the game earned him a position at the Ryder Cup.
Garcia already expects some positive outcomes from the event, as he hopes that European golfers will once again be able to make their mark at the event.
Nevertheless, they can never commit the mistake of underestimating their American opponents.
According to experts and pundits of golf, the Ryder Cup is not just important for Europe, but is of greater significance for Garcia, as the World No. 17 is desperately looking for a spot that can bring him back in the top 10.
